2010 Projects...

After experimenting with a lot of different yarns through the 3 years i was at Farnham, i came to know and love using cotton and on occassion, silk. I have continued using these but have after being quite closed minded about wool, for various reasons I have branched out and tried it out as well.

For the last couple of months I have been making cotton and silk scarves for evening wear and woolen scarves with metallic flares for daywear.  Anyway here's a couple, I'll add more soon! Xxx

This is a Christmas present for my Aunt and with the weather we've been having i think the name is quite apt, 'Snowflake'

Here is the completed scarf off the loom, i had to downsize it by half for various reasons, but it became more drapeable and showed off the effects of the combination of yarns.
A Wool scarf with various shades of Black and brown, mixed in with some glitz, I simply call this ‘Chocolate’
This was something I’ve always wanted to make, during my 2nd year of Uni, one of my projects was based on the Colour Wheel, I ended up making a huge doublecloth production piece of fabric (picture shown of this on main page),. Afterwards I had lots of cones of the colours left over. This scarf is the same colours and is plain and sateen weave which shows off the boldness and blending of the colours. An obvious name, 'Rainbow'.

‘Lime-Alive’ Simple use of 5 shades of green cotton, all wound at once, creating a grainy blend of colour. Created for a family member, was the third scarf i wove on my current loom.
‘Winter Blue’ This was the first cotton/metallic/silk blend evening scarf to be made by me. I found the colours I wanted, spent hours designing the pattern and order, set it up, and was fully expecting yarns to break all over the place but I was pleasantly surprised that they all held through the entire length and the scarf was a complete and utter success! Other colours to come….
‘Autumn Leaves’ The next in the increasing line of cotton/silk/metallic blend evening scarf, after completing ‘Winter Blue’ I was quite eager to design the next one with these rich autumn colours I had left over from previous projects. The range of metallic wasn’t as wide but the cottons were 3 completely different colours so any more would have overdone it.  A very vibrant coloured scarf in the end.
‘Shimmer’ I actually made this before ‘Chocolate’ and was the way I discovered a tightly set scarf less than 20cm doesn’t drape very well (common sense really I suppose!) It’s still wearable but I opened the set for all upcoming woollen scarves so ‘Shimmer’ has been my wool breakthrough point.
Undecided, I designed and made this during the cold snap that most of the country seemed to experience right at the beginning of December for my Mum to wear at work, she asked me to use whatever colours I was almost running out of hence the slight clashing of some shades. The overall effect is quite interesting
‘Winter Frost’ Essentially the same design as ‘Winter Blue’ but a few of the colours and yarns were substituted for others, it is also half the size so therefore a slightly more open weave. This was made for a friend who has always been interested in what I do.
'Lilac Mist' Designed and made as a special present for a close friend. Shades of Violet, Lavender, Deep Purple and more.
‘Autumnal Tango’ This was when it was still in progress, as it was a Christmas present and of course being 3 days before Christmas I forgot to take a picture of it once it had been completed, it is very similar to ‘Autumn Leaves’ only there is no Deep Maroon but a lot more tangy orange.

‘Blue and Black Ice’ The last scarf to be made before Christmas and probably the last one for this year as well. Another family members Christmas present, made up of Black and Blue Wool with a contrasting White and Silver Metallic, shows really interesting patterns because of the dark and light blocks.
So there we go, that's pretty much all of the scarves I've made in the last 2 months, blankets and cushions are still in the experimental stage but I have a got a few of each of those as well. I'll add more scarves as and when they come, hope you like them and again if there is anything you have seen which you particularly like, go to my contact page and feel free to email or give me a buzz.
Thanks for reading! xXx
